Why Mindful Eating Will Benefit Your Success

Food and women is really a BIG thing, I’ve learned during my years working as a nutritionist with groups and individuals that mindful eating is something everyone would benefit from. It’s not only about the food choices you make and what you eat. It’s about embracing a new way of living and diving deep and discovering a more holistic and loving approach towards yourself, your food, and your fantastic body.

Your food choices are a way to show love, care, and deep respect for yourself. And as the saying goes, your health is your wealth. I consider healthy eating to be a massively empowering tool if you truly want to thrive in life, it’s fundamental for vitality and holistic success. And Mindful eating is a way for you to rediscover a happier, healthier, and more joyful relationship with yourself, your food, and your body so let’s begin!

What is Mindful Eating?

In the most simple way of description, Mindful eating (conscious eating) means eating with awareness and using your intuition as your internal teacher. It is not another diet with tons of restrictions, instead, it uses meditation and mindfulness as a tool, which helps you acknowledge and manage all your emotions and physical sensations you have that are connected to the food you choose and you’re eating patterns.

Mindful eating is an empowering and holistic approach to the body, mind, and soul that will help you reach a state of full awareness of your experiences, cravings, and physical cues when you’re eating. It’s about creating long-lasting behavioral change and body awareness. Most importantly, it’s about tuning into the wisdom and intelligence of your own body in order to fully understand and respect its needs.

It is also about allowing yourself to become aware of all the positive and nurturing opportunities that are available to you through conscious food choices and preparation by respecting your body’s inner wisdom. It also practices using all of your senses in choosing to eat food that is both satisfying to you and nourishing to your body. Eating mindfully involves different steps that will do you so much good and support your success.

Here are 7 simple ways for you to practice mindful eating

1. Choose your food thoughtfully

Start to pay loving attention to what kind of groceries you pick in the store. CHOOSE natural clean whole foods that will provide you with both nutrition and pleasure (enjoying your foods is super important!!). If possible, try to get as much local and organic produce as possible. That’s a powerful way of showing love and respect to both yourself and our planet.

2. Only eat when you’re hungry

WHY are you really eating? This is a question that will give you a lot of answers. Be honest to yourself and start paying attention to the reasons why you’re eating. It’s also a really good way to start practicing tuning into your body’s wisdom and to let your internal nutritionist speak up about when it’s time to eat.

3. Sit down and let go of distractions

The fast-food and “grab and go” is a killer to your body’s digestive system. Allow some time for each meal where you actually give yourself some time to sit down and eat without other distractions, such as your work, social media, or a phone call. This will make you taste, experience, and ENJOY food in a new more mindful way.

4. Eat slowly and chew well

Stress is the killer factor here, rushing through meals is not loving towards yourself in any way. We’ve ALL been there – stress gets to both you and me but it’s a good time to ask yourself what’s really the enormous rush? Eating slowly will help you to really savor your food and it will also help you to digest your foods more gently.

5. Embrace all your senses

Slowing down helps you to really ACTIVATE all your senses when it’s time for a meal. What does the food look like? Can you smell the flavors of it? How does it feel when you put it in your mouth and what can you taste? Keep doing this practice by embracing all your senses every time you eat for maximum pleasure.

6. Truly savor each little bite

I’m sure you can remember times when you truly enjoyed your food in a deeper sense. Think of the Italians (bless them!!), French or the Japanese were eating a meal is more of a social gathering and a cultural ritual than something that just “needs to get done”. Get INSPIRED by your food and truly make sure to taste, enjoy and savor every bite.

7. Cultivate an attitude of gratitude

Take some time to look at your plate and acknowledge all the ingredients that are participating in your meal experience. Go back to the soil where everything actually comes from and give GRATITUDE to all the people that’s been involved in the process of making everything essentially end up at your plate for you to enjoy.

I know by experience that there most often are a lot of rules and negative thought patterns around body image and weight among women that sabotage your vitality, which is a key for your health, your SUCCESS, and your overall well-being. I recommend you to read this post about how to overcome limiting beliefs and create new ones.
